What is Banger Racing
Banger racing is a motorsport even more popular in Europe, especially in Great Britain, Ireland, Belgium, and the Netherlands. It is a tarmac or dirt track type of racing wherein drivers of old cars race against each other around a race track. Opponents of the game need to wreck each other's vehicles while racing to get to the chequered flag first.
Usually, the vehicles that are used in a banger race are normally old, beaten cars. Another version of the banger racing is the "Siamese," wherein two cars that are independently driven are chained together. There are other events for different vehicles, with the most bizarre-looking car getting the best prize. Although such sport is similar to a demolition derby in the US, cars used in banger racing are well used before they are wrecked to death. Today, the recent race trend of banger racing is using high quality professional cars instead of scrap cars, providing a higher profile entertainment. Yet, owners and drivers still invest in race-tuned engines, sticky tyres, as well as suspension setups.
One variant of this sport, which is non-racing, is the banger rally. It is a form of motor competition, which usually takes place on either public, or private roads, which is composed of cars that have been modified or built specially for such purpose. Banger rallies are sometimes referred to as charity rallies wherein various teams take part in the event to raise money for a particular foundation or organisation. It involves driving through various destinations in Europe
